FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions we hear most about FabyaVision.

General

The product and its scope.

What is FabyaVision?

FabyaVision is Fabyatek’s SCADA / HMI software. You design a project in Studio and run it in Live; Convert turns TIA Portal HMI projects into FabyaVision projects. All three install on your own Windows computer.

How many objects are in the object library?

There are 480+ 2D and 430+ 3D object types, all drawn in code as vector and 3D graphics. 420+ of the 3D objects have a detailed Realistic model besides the Standard one. Objects with a run / fault state, such as pumps and motors, change color and move with that state; for the others you bind the properties to tags yourself.

Is there a cloud version, redundancy or a multi-station architecture?

FabyaVision is Windows software that you install on site; there is no cloud service or mobile app. There is no redundancy (hot standby) or server / client architecture either, and Live runs one project at a time. Linux and macOS are not supported.

Demo and license

Duration, limits, pricing.

How long does the demo run?

By default it runs for 30 days, and each session lasts 15 minutes; before closing it asks whether to save your changes and, if you don’t answer, saves and closes by itself. Studio, Live and Convert share the same number of days. Write to us if you need a different period.

Does the demo have feature limits, and what happens when it expires?

The limit is time, not features. When the period ends the program no longer starts; your .fvs project files stay in your own folders. The demo is for evaluation; production use needs a license.

What are the price and license terms?

We don’t publish a price list on the site. For a license and a quote, describe your need (plant type, PLCs to connect, approximate number of screens and tags) on the Contact page with the “Request a quote” subject.

Do I need an account to download the demo?

Yes. Sign-up asks for your name, e-mail, password, company and sector; the data is processed for the purposes in the Privacy Notice (KVKK). Consent to commercial messages is optional.

Setup and requirements

Windows, prerequisites, setup types.

Which Windows versions does it run on?

Windows 10 and 11. Windows 7 / 8, Linux and macOS are not supported.

Do I need to install anything else? Why is the installer so large?

.NET Framework 4.8 and the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime are required; the installer installs them if they are missing. Because the prerequisites are bundled so they can be installed offline, the file is several hundred megabytes (the current size is shown on the Download page). 3D needs a graphics driver with WebGL support. If the automatic installation causes trouble, you can install both from Microsoft by hand.

SmartScreen shows a warning during setup. What should I do?

The installer is not digitally signed, so SmartScreen may show a “Windows protected your PC” warning. Compare the SHA-256 value on the Download page with the one you calculate yourself; if they match, continue with “More info” › “Run anyway”.

What setup types are there?

Full, Field (Live only), Engineering (Studio and Convert) and Custom (you choose the components). Live is a normal desktop program, not a Windows service; to have it start with Windows, tick the option in the installer (off by default).

Connectivity and drivers

Supported devices and protocols.

Which PLCs and protocols can it connect to?

8 protocols: Siemens S7 (S7-1500, S7-1200, S7-300/400), Modbus TCP, OPC UA (client), Allen-Bradley EtherNet/IP, Mitsubishi MC, Omron FINS, OPC DA and MQTT. A built-in simulator lets you work without a PLC. Details are on the Connectivity page.

Is there an OPC UA server?

No, FabyaVision is an OPC UA client: it reads and writes data on another OPC UA server (security mode None, Basic256Sha256 signed or signed and encrypted; anonymous or user name / password). It does not offer its own data as an OPC UA server.

Can I try it without a real PLC?

Yes. The simulator driver generates sine, ramp, square, random and counter signals and needs no network address. The sample project that comes with the demo also runs on the simulator. Before connecting real devices, we recommend a trial with your own PLC.

Does Siemens S7 need any setting on the PLC?

Yes: PUT/GET access must be allowed in the PLC and “Optimized block access” must be off in the DBs. Symbolic or optimized blocks are reached through OPC UA. PLC passwords and S7 secure communication are not supported.

Are serial protocols such as Modbus RTU or PROFIBUS supported?

No. All drivers work over Ethernet / TCP (COM / DCOM for OPC DA). There is no Modbus RTU / ASCII, PROFIBUS, MPI or serial Mitsubishi / Omron connection.

Convert (TIA)

Converting TIA Portal projects.

What does Convert do?

It reads the WinCC HMI devices in your TIA Portal V20 project (classic Basic / Comfort / Advanced, WinCC Unified and WinCC Professional) and converts screens, tags and connections into a FabyaVision project (.fvs). It does not write to the TIA project. You open the result in Studio and edit it. Details are on the Convert page.

Does the conversion transfer the project one to one?

No, the result is a starting point. Each object is marked “full”, “approximate” or “placeholder” in the report, and what could not be transferred is in the Warnings list. Font sizes and pixel positions are not identical; optimized DBs have no absolute addresses, so those tags arrive without an address. Animations and events do not run in the preview.

Which TIA Portal version is required?

Reading directly from TIA needs TIA Portal V20, and your Windows user must be in the local “Siemens TIA Openness” group. We still suggest working on a copy of the project. Options without TIA: a ready-made export package or, for WinCC Professional only, the project folder.

Do my WinCC scripts run as they are?

No. The FabyaVision script engines use names similar to WinCC (such as HMIRuntime.Tags) but cover only a subset; HMIRuntime.Alarms, Logging and DataLogs are missing. Review and retest converted scripts. WinCC Unified JavaScript modules are carried over as source and not executed.

Are alarms, recipes and users converted too?

It depends on the family. For WinCC Unified, alarm classes and discrete / analog alarms are transferred. For classic HMI, alarm definitions, recipes, users and archives are not transferred; for WinCC Professional, alarm definitions are not. The report lists what was left out.

Scripting

Languages and permissions.

Which scripting languages are there?

Four: VBScript, JavaScript, C and Python. The product’s own engines run VBScript, C and Python (no Windows Script Host, C compiler or CPython needed); each is a subset of the language, and Python has no async, networking or third-party packages such as numpy. JavaScript runs in WebView2’s own environment.

Can scripts access files, databases and other programs?

Only if you allow it. The “Connect to databases”, “Run programs” and “Access files” permissions are off by default and are turned on in Live Settings. JavaScript scripts have no database, file or program access. Scripts run only in Live.

Are there ready-made examples and error checking?

Yes: the script editor has 120+ ready-made examples in four languages, a Reference panel, live syntax checking and a “Compile” (F9) command; compiling also checks project-dependent rules such as a missing tag or a call whose permission is off. There are no breakpoints or step-by-step execution.

Remote monitoring and security

Browser monitoring, access, authentication.

What is remote monitoring, and can I control from the browser?

Live opens a small web server on the computer it runs on (8080 by default); you watch the same project from computer, tablet and smart TV browsers. Monitoring is read-only: control, alarm acknowledgement, recipe or report actions and setting changes cannot be made from the browser.

Is remote monitoring secure?

There is authentication: user name and password, a session cookie, a temporary lockout after repeated wrong attempts and, by default, an access rule that admits only local network and VPN addresses. There is no HTTPS; the connection is plain HTTP, so do not expose the server directly to the internet and use a VPN. TV addresses have no password by default (this can be turned off).

Can I monitor from a phone?

Monitoring is done in the browser; there is no mobile app. There is a layout for narrow screens.

How do user permissions and the operator log work?

Users belong to groups, groups get numbered permissions, and permissions can be used at object, page and menu level. Passwords are stored as salted SHA-256 hashes. Operator actions (who, when, which tag, old and new value) are written to the log by default. There is no central directory connection such as AD / LDAP.

Where are driver connection passwords stored?

Connection passwords are kept in a plain-text file in the .veri folder next to the project (the OPC UA password is not written to the project file). Restrict access to that folder with Windows user permissions.

Support

Contact and manual.

Whom do I contact for support or a partnership?

On the Contact page choose “Technical support”, “Request a quote” or “Partnership / integrator”, or write to info@fabyatek.com.

Is there a user manual?

Yes. The English and Turkish manual installs with the software and opens with F1 in Studio; 100+ topics with screenshots. You can also read it in the browser on the Documentation page.

Didn’t find your answer?

Write your question; if you mention the plant type and the PLCs to connect, we can answer more precisely.
