Frequently asked questions
The most frequently asked questions about installation, starting Live, communication, scripts, remote monitoring, TV and logs, with short answers. Each answer links to the relevant topic.
Every answer is short; for details, go to the topic at the end. For tables from symptom to solution, see the Troubleshooting guide; for known limitations, see Known limits.
Installation and startup
Why does the Select project screen appear when Live is opened?
No project is given on the command line and Start automatically with the last project is off (this is the default in a new installation). Select the project or turn on automatic start. See Live overview.
Studio or Live does not start; it shows a WebView2 error. What should I do?
Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is not installed on the computer. Install Microsoft's Evergreen Standalone Installer package and restart the program. On a computer without internet access, the installer cannot do this; transfer the package from another computer. See Installation.
Will my projects be deleted if I update or uninstall the program?
An update does not touch the settings files or the Live\Projeler folder. When uninstalling, the Projeler folder that contains projects is not deleted; however, the logs folders and the two settings files are deleted. See Installation.
Why is the change I made in Studio not visible in Live?
Live reads the project when it opens it. Save the project, transfer it with Upload project to Live…, and reopen the project in Live. See Uploading the project to Live.
Can Live run two projects at the same time?
No. Live runs a single project; Change project… closes the open project and opens the selected one. See Live overview.
Communication and values
The connection shows no connection. Where can I see the reason?
In Live, a red message appears below the connection in the system menu › Connections section. Go to the right driver topic according to the beginning of the message. See Connection problems.
Why does it never say connecting?
PLC drivers do not report this state: until a connection is established, no connection is shown, and the message is empty until the first attempt is finished. See Connection diagnostics.
Why does a value appear gray or as ####?
The quality of the tag is not good: there is no connection, there is an address error or the first value has not arrived yet. If the connection is established but only one tag is gray, the address or data type is wrong. See Tag errors and quality and Scaling and quality.
I have corrected the address. When does the value arrive?
An unreadable tag is retried every 30 seconds; a data block loaded to the PLC later recovers within this interval. If you changed the address in Studio, you must load the project to Live and reopen it. See Connection problems.
No alarms are generated. Why?
The most common causes: Live settings is off in Startup sequence › Alarm system, the alarm's trigger tag has not been selected, or the trigger tag cannot be read. See Startup sequence and Alarm definition.
Scripts
Which scripting language should I choose?
JavaScript is enough for short tag operations and calculations, but it has no database, file or program execution functions. If you need these, use VBS, C or Python. If you are migrating from WinCC, the VBS or C you are used to is suitable. See Scripts overview.
Why does my script not run?
First check that the script is bound to a task, event or button, that the task is enabled and that the change has been uploaded to Live. Then filter the Script type in the event log. See Script and task problems.
Where do script errors appear?
In the event log (Event view object) and, for scheduled tasks, in the System menu › Tasks… window. No window is opened for the operator; nothing is written to the program's logs file either. See Log files.
What does The script exceeded the time limit (30 s) mean?
A VBS, C or Python call ran computations for longer than 30 seconds; most likely there is an infinite loop. Implement waiting with a scheduled task, not with a loop. JavaScript has no such limit. See Script and task problems.
My script cannot write a file or connect to the database.
The database, program execution and file permissions are off by default. In Studio, enable the required permission under Live settings › Script permissions and upload the project again; only in projects you trust. See VBScript.
Remote monitoring and TV
Why can I not control anything when monitoring from the browser?
Browser monitoring is read-only. Control, alarm acknowledgment and settings are available only on the Live PC. See Remote monitoring.
The address does not open from the browser or returns 403.
If it does not open, the Windows Firewall permission, the network address of the Live PC or the port may be wrong; in Live, use Remote monitoring… in the system menu › Add firewall permission window. The message Access from this address is not allowed. (403) shows that the client's address is not in the allowed access networks. See Remote monitoring.
Can I expose remote monitoring to the internet?
Not recommended. Browser monitoring uses plain HTTP; passwords are not encrypted. For access over the internet, set up a VPN. See Remote access over VPN.
Why does the TV not open?
The second-display TV requires a display that is covered neither by Live nor by the multi-monitor setup; otherwise the window does not open. For TVs on the network, Browser monitoring must be on. See Multi-monitor and TV.
Why does the on-screen keyboard not open?
In the System menu, On-screen keyboard may be Inactive; the field may be read-only; or you are monitoring from a browser (the keyboard works only in the local Live). See On-screen keyboard.
Settings, logs and support
I changed the Font scale (%) field, but nothing happened.
Live does not read this field. The font size is selected in Live per station with the Font size buttons in the system menu. See Live settings.
Where are the log files?
The program logs are in the Studio\logs and Live\logs folders; in Studio, Help›Open log folder opens the folder. The event log is in the <Ad>.veri\gunluk folder next to the project file. See Log files.
Does the event log fill the disk?
The event, alarm and recipe transfer logs are not deleted automatically. Back up and delete old monthly files. See Files and folders of Live.
What should I send when requesting support?
The program log of the day with the problem, the event log file, the project file, the version information and a screenshot. Do not send the baglanti_sifreleri.json file. See Log files.
